|
Think out of the box! Massachusetts is filled with charming and eclectic sites, including historic farms, gardens, and museums. Even if you find a site that doesn't typically host weddings, give the managment a call - many people are willing to work with you to create a unique, personalized event.
Looking for a location for your wedding or reception that is more creative (or just less pricey) than a typical banquet hall? Here are some interesting ideas to get you thinking about other types of options, from a former train depot (that still has trains running by!) to a wedding set among priceless artworks.

Western MA |
Hardwick Vineyard and Winery (Hardwick)
No need to go to Napa to have a romantic vineyard wedding! Rustic and bucolic in setting, the timber frame barn can accommodate parties of 50-125. A timber frame gazebo overlooking the vineyards makes a beautiful spot for a ceremony, and guests may have the special pleasure of sampling Hardwick’s own wine.

Mount Sugarloaf State Reservation (Deerfield)
Mt. Sugarloaf offers a commanding view of the Connecticut River, the Pioneer Valley, and the Pelham and Berkshire Hills. Well-maintained by the National Park Service, the site offers picnicking, scenic viewing (also from a tower building with bathrooms) and hiking. An auto road winds to the summit, and a grilling pit and pavilion are available for rent for a very nominal fee. Would be great for a casual wedding (especially for families) or a cook-out the day before.

The eclectic Montague Bookmill Group includes this restaurant that features a large deck tucked away from the world where it overlooks the river that once ran the mill.

Great for a casual, friendly wedding for families, this restaurant is situated in a beautifully renovated train depot. (This is one of JP-Joe's favorite locations because the staff is so warm and helpful!)

A “European-style” café with a great menu, and an exciting and sophisticated wine, beer, and coffee/tea list. Gulu-Gulu owners Steven Feldmann & Marie Feldmannova create a warm, comfortable welcoming atmosphere. Great for an informal wedding with your closest friends and family in a location where you can relax and enjoy each other’s company.

Hammond Castle Museum (Gloucester)
Nestled on Gloucester's rocky Atlantic coast, this museum was once the home of John Hays Hammond Jr. The inventor built his medieval-style castle between the years 1926 and 1929 and created many new patents while living there. Today it is an active museum and a popular site for weddings.
